There’s a new Doc Jazz music video coming out on Tuesday October 20th: “That Melody”! Following on the heels of Doc’s previous release, “Twenty Twenty“, the new song will be coming from an entirely different angle.

Twenty Twenty” was mostly electronic, and Doc Jazz performed all the parts himself. The upcoming release, however, is performed by no less than six musicians from various locations on the globe. It is entirely based on live recordings, i.e. for the knowledgeable ones among you: no MIDI! In this upcoming music video, you will be able to watch all the artists playing their parts.

Keepin’ It Real

“That Melody” is the kick-off of a new project by Doc Jazz that he calls “Keepin’ It Real”. It’s a statement in the face of a music scene that is heavy with programmed music and auto-tuned vocals. He plans to release a series of songs that features performances on real instruments, hiring session musicians when necessary.

As Doc Jazz himself is a multi-instrumentalist, that doesn’t mean he won’t be doing some of the work himself. However, in this very first ‘Keepin’ It Real’ production, he outsourced all the parts to an exquisite selection of instrumentalists and vocalists. He does sing the lead vocal and backing vocals, but the rest of the performances are all done by others.

That Melody

“That Melody” was written and recorded by Doc Jazz in 2008, for his album inSURGency. For the new release, he made no significant changes in the musical arrangement. However, in the original, Doc Jazz played all the parts himself. With other musicians playing it, the song has a new flavor and a new vigor. It also has a higher musical level, due to the fact that they are specialists.
