As the ongoing genocide has stifled and suffocated Doc Jazz’s creativity, his releases now come in bursts. Like now, at the announcement of the ceasefire in Gaza. The previous ceasefire saw the release of the hit song ‘All About The Benjamins’. This time, Doc digs into the blues, with ‘Dead Man Walking’.

It is a grim song indeed, but it narrates the perspective of a Palestinian from Gaza. He’s a man whose home has been bombed, killing his entire family. Infuriating as it is, there are countless men who have faced this catastrophe. The genocide, according to some estimates has exterminated hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians.

Doc Jazz is no stranger to the blues, even if he hasn’t released that many songs in that genre. However, for this theme, it is indeed the only appropriate format in the realm of Western musical styles.

‘Dead Man Walking’ hits hard – which you will undoubtedly feel if you give it a listen. The transparent production style makes the emotionally charged lead vocal cut through the mix with clarity and expression. Instrumentation is kept simple, but also highly dynamic, mostly centered around the rhythm guitar. Every section of the song is approached differently, at times contained, and at other times exploding into heart-rending exclamations of anguish.

This song is a must-hear, for those who are familiar with Doc Jazz’s repertoire. It’s not exactly a political song; rather, it’s his attempt to empathize with his bereaved Palestinian brethren in precious Gaza. As usual, Doc wants to carry it to audiences who normally wouldn’t fully embrace the outrageous human tragedy that is taking place in Occupied Palestine.

Without further ado, dig in, put on your headphones or turn up your speakers, and let Doc Jazz’s voice and instrumental skills carry you away!
