Why voting for Right of Return is a simple but great service to the Palestinian cause

You may have seen calls here and there to vote for the song ‘Right of Return’, which was entered by Palestinian artist Doc Jazz in the Global Rockstar competition. You may have clicked on a ‘like’, and you may even have shared an ad for it or retweeted a tweet. That is wonderful, but it is not enough. If you were discouraged by a complicated registration process, just vote through your Facebook or Twitter account!

The Global Rockstar competition is one of the most prestigious and high-profile song competitions for independent music in the world. ‘Right of Return’ is a song with a hugely important message that expresses the determination of the Palestinian people to never give up on their inalienable right to return to their homeland Palestine.

‘Right of Return’ is extremely close to winning the National Preliminaries for the UAE, but it needs your votes to seal this victory. It was on number 1 for many weeks in a row, but has now been pushed to the number 2 position by a British band. If it loses this competition, then that’s that, but if it wins, thousands of people will be confronted with the message of the Right of Return.

If you don’t see the value of that, then perhaps you should sit down and think for a while. Ask yourself this: how many times are people worldwide challenged to think about the Right of Return? How important is this issue for the Palestinian cause? How many (multi)media messages are out there that draw attention to this crucial aspect of the struggle?

If you do see the value of it, then there is no need for further explanation. ‘Right of Return’ MUST win the National Preliminaries in the Global Rockstar competition. It’s as simple as that.

In 7 days from now, the winner will be decided. This winner MUST be ‘Right of Return’. Your vote is a simple way of helping to make this happen!
