Ramallah, Palestine – Occupation authorities have released Palestinian activist Suhaib Zahida after a detention of one week. He was arrested on the unusual and unprecedented charge of writing slogans of incitement against ‘Israel’ on social media and Facebook, and specifically against Ghassan Elian, commander of the Golani Brigade of the Israeli army responsible for the massacre in the Shujaiya neighborhood in Gaza.

Suhaib was released after the military occupation of Ofer prison decided on Wednesday September 3, 2014, that he was to be released on a NIS 4,000 bail.

The eventual release process on Thursday took many long hours after payment of the bail, which caused Suhaib to arrive home at midnight. The purpose of such protracted delays is to erode his will and undermine his psyche, a common method practiced by occupation authorities when releasing activists.

Badia Dweik, coordinator of the league of human rights advocates, said that the charge that led to the arrest of Suhaib was basically null and void, and without justification. Upon his arrival Suhaib was greeted by all those who had supported his case. He received many congratulations to him and his family, and said that he wished for the release of all hostages of freedom in the jails of the occupation.
