By Imane M. – On the 24th of November of 2012, the city of Lyon made some noise in the name of justice. 15,000 protesters gathered at Bellecour Square at 2PM for a march organized by the umbrella organization “Collectif 69 de soutien au peuple Palestinien” (‘Collective 69 for support of the Palestinian people’), which united dozens of humanitarian and political organizations to condemn the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the support of this terror by the French government, and to demand the lifting of the blockade. Read on for an impression of this inspiring demo, which includes a video clip with subtitles.

The president of the umbrella organization started off with an inspiring speech emphasizing the crimes committed by ‘Israel’, and the fact that we have to demand the lifting of the blockade. Afterwards, a representative of the organization “Europalestine” gave a speech about the BDS-movement. He urged everyone to boycott the Zionist state in every way possible: economical, academic and cultural. He also announced that they are going to Gaza next month for humanitarian purposes and asked everyone to donate what they can.

Then the march started, escorted by the French police. The demonstrators walked and chanted from Bellecour, which is considered the heart of Lyon, to the Place the Terreaux. There was lots of energy, and lots of noise. This protest surely didn’t go unnoticed!

Even though some kind of truce has been signed, the struggle isn’t over yet. It was uplifting and empowering to see that so many people turned despite the cease-fire, clearly expressing that the cessation of bombardments does not satisfy the imperative need for justice. This is why it was important to have a large protest like this one, and to see approximately 15.000 people condemning the ‘Israel’ for its state terrorism. It shows us that more and more people have a strong aversion towards the horrible crimes commited by ‘Israel’ and towards the support of these atrocities by their own government. We will never give up! Without justice, there can never be peace.

Watch the short videoclip from the demonstration below, which has subtitles in French and English so that you know what the people are chanting in the slogans, and it will give you a good impression of what it was like to be there!
