'Futile Dialogue' : a Zionist strategy |
|

By Tariq Shadid - The struggle for Palestinian rights has always been operating under tremendous pressure. The Zionist war machine has never ceased its expansionist drift ever since it forced its illegal roots into Palestinian soil in the beginning of the 20th century, and has never changed its modus operandi. It has always paired ruthless military aggression, ethnic cleansing and land theft with a narrative built on misleading euphemisms such as 'progress', 'civilization', 'democracy', 'security' and 'peace'. Never was there a time in the history of the Zionist state when murder and expansion committed in military uniforms was not explained as 'self defense' against 'terrorism', by those smartly clad in expensive suits with matching shirts and ties.
It may be true that dedicated pro-Palestine activists are on to this, and infallibly see through this well-rehearsed charade. Nevertheless, a more insidious front in the war of minds has always been running in the background, that many of them are not always immune to. For the sake of explanation, I shall call it the 'strategy of futile dialogue', and the effects of this Zionist tactic should not too easily be dismissed as irrelevant. After all, public speakers, politicians and activists are prone to succumbing to the confusing effect of that front. They are the ones who help shape public perception of the conflict, which in turn has an effect upon policy-makers all the way up to the echelons of national governments and the United Nations.

Tweeting for Khader: major kudos and a point of criticism |
|

The past week has been an amazing week for Twitter activism for the Palestinian cause. In fact, the achievements could be described as historic. For 6 days in a row, hashtags related to Khader Adnan's hunger strike managed to make it to the world trending list 7 times in total.
The success of these online demonstrations must be attributed mostly to those (mostly Palestinian) 'tweeps' who organized it, and secondly to those who responded to the calls in a stunning display of harmony and cooperation. Participants were given the hashtag while being urged not to use it before the appointed time of the trending avalanche, and I cannot recall this rule to ever have been broken by any 'tweep', at least not on my timeline. This is an amazing feat of mutual understanding, faith in the organizers, and a united stance for the common cause.

My Palestinian Realization - by Adam Akkad |
|
Sunday, 19 February 2012 06:32 |

By Adam Akkad - The moment I stopped believing in the 2 state solution was the moment I realized that the path to freedom for Palestine travels through the Palestinian people. Many in the Palestinian community continue to have hope in negotiations and the so called ‘peace process’ due to a belief that only Israel can improve our condition. Our problems will never be solved by Israel; we must solve them on our own. One of the most fatal flaws we can make is to fall in the trap of defining the conflict in the same manner as the oppressor.
The 2 state solution represents the consensus among western power elites and some Arab elites regarding how to produce ambiguous conditions for how to preserve and legitimize Israeli land grabs and colonization. Refugee rights and the sharp dichotomy between the actions of the Palestinian Authority and the desires of the Palestinian people are negated entirely.

The Palestinian culture is part and parcel of the Arab and Islamic world. The Palestinians are deeply rooted in their rich culture and history which contains all 3 major religions of the Abrahamic faith with Islam being the dominant faith practiced by the majority of Palestinians. The Palestinian society and their Holy Land is also solidly connected with the oldest Christian community in the world where Issa (Jesus) was in fact born. Yes, like it or not, Jesus was Palestinian.
The culture includes phenomenal art, poetry, embroidery, fine cuisine and of course music of the land. The most famous of poetry is by Palestinian National poet Mahmud Darwish which echoes across the land and every corner of the Earth and even sang by the most of popular Arab singers like Marcel Khalifa.
