There is some exciting news to announce: Doc Jazz has been invited to be on the jury panel of the Palestinian talent show ‘Ghaneeha’ and will soon travel to Palestine for this purpose. ‘Ghaneeha’ is based upon the world famous formula of ‘American Idol’, which has had its offshoots in many other countries across the globe.

This is the third season of ‘Ghaneeha’, and its focus is on musical training and performance contests, giving a boost to young Palestinians in the age group of 16 – 25 to cultivate and improve their musical talents. The difference this year will be that while previous versions showcased only Arabic music, this year’s program will also feature contestants competing in singing songs in the English language. This apparently is one of the reasons that Doc Jazz has been invited to be involved. Read on for more information, and the schedule for the auditions in the different Palestinian cities.

In March, the first phase of the program will commence, featuring auditions in five Palestinian cities: Hebron, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Nablus and Ramallah. Doc Jazz will be one of the three jury members who will be judging the performance of the contestants and selecting the first 60 from among them who will be allowed to continue to the next round.

The schedule for the auditions in the first phase is as follows:

March 13: Hebron
March 14: Bethlehem
March 15: Jerusalem
March 16: Nablus
March 17: Ramallah

In March and April, the second phase of the project will entail a musical training program and also involve the selection of 24 semi-finalists. The end phase is scheduled to take place in May-June, and will entail semi-final concerts with a live band where another panel of judges, together with the audience, will select the final contestants. Eventually, the Grand Finale will be held, and the overall winner will be crowned.

‘Ghaneeha’ will be backed up by a widespread national media campaign, and the Palestinian channel Wattan TV will be following the program closely.
