There is some important news on the front of music for the Palestinian cause: South African artists have banded together to record an album in support of the Palestinian struggle named ‘AMANDLA INTIFADA 2’.

The album, in some ways, can be seen as a sequel to the album released in 2009 through the collaboration of four South African bands, called ‘AMANDLA INTIFADA’.

This time around, encouraged by the international acclaim that album received from international solidarity groups, a considerably larger number of artists got together to record an album with the same goal. The impetus for this recording came from the renewed Israeli bombing of Gaza in November 2012.

The album features artists from a wide variety of backgrounds and artistic disciplines, united by their solidarity in support of the struggle of the Palestinian people against the Apartheid regime of the Zionist state.

AMANDLA INTIFADA 2 features Ewok, Daniel Friedman, The Mavrix, Futurama, Nafeesa, 45th Ave Project, S Wordcam and Aslam, and Rassool Snyman. The album is a feature-rich mix of spoken word and musical styles including hip hop, folk, rock, soul and poetry.

The Mavrix

The artists aim to develop a platform for artists to express their support for the struggle, raise funds for Palestinian solidarity groups, and raise awareness about the oppression of the Palestinians through artistic expression.

The project was initiated from the ground up by community members who cooperated with ‘South African Artists Against Apartheid’ and the Palestine Solidarity Alliance. As survivors of South Africa’s own Apartheid, they recognize the need to add their voices to the global outcries against the injustices perpetrated by the Israeli regime.

The Musical Intifada salutes these talented South African artists for their brave and honorable stance against racism and oppression, and wishes this fantastic album the greatest exposure and success imaginable.
